Medical Doctors/Facilities:

Please, please, avoid using Endocrinology Consultants of East TN (1450 Dowell Springs Blvd Knoxville, TN 37909)   In 1999 I had been sent to Dr Thomas Doty by my MD for a hormone test review, but I hurried out when Doty demanded to inspect my genitals before talking to me or redrawing blood. In 2003 I had renal failure so was hospitalized at UT. Doty recognized my wife in the hall so took the opportunity to see me naked. I woke up as he was trying to open my thighs. He was disciplined by UT Hospital and removed from their offices but TN Health Board did not discipline him. Dr Bill Law keeps him at his office knowing about the incident. Cherokee Health uses ECET for endo referrals, but has posted a "No Transgender Patients" bulletin on them. ~~ Michael in 2007

Corryton Medical Center:   This is the only medical facility in the town of Corryton TN.  Unfortunately, I was assigned the doctor there as my Primary Care Physician by TennCare.  The Dr. refused to even see me. As soon as he found out I was on testosterone and psychotropic medication I heard him tell the receptionist to not make an appointment and to have me transfer PCPs.  TennCare is currently investigating him for insurance fraud since he is a Physician's Assistant not a Doctor, and his boss (a real MD) has not practiced in 3 years since a bad car accident. Medicare is now investigating him for refusing a local disabled patient (me).  ~~~~ BEAR  in 1999

Dr. David Reath, Plastic Surgeon.  I chose this doctor strictly because he takes my insurance plan.  For 2 months his office staff fought with TennCare to get my mastectomy /gynecomastia covered, and won. Since he is a doctor and was examining my breasts I assumed he knew I was FTM.  Wrong!  During my surgery he attempted to catheterize me because my "bladder seems distended".  That was when he discovered I was not a bio male.  During a follow-up exam, Reath was abrasive and voiced anti-TS sentiments. Reath began obsessing about genital verification for new patients so his office lease at UT Hospital was revoked. He is now in a private office on Northshore at Kingston Pike. His website states he still teaches at UT which is false, reports have been made to his promoters and licensing division. ~~ BEAR

Previously they were providing maintenance dosing, but after a major staffing change they no longer feel HRT for Transition purposes is appropriate care for them to provide. They are now the Knox County Health Department care providers, which means Indigent Adult care is also effected.

Psychiatric Clinics/Doctors:

Overlook OutReach Center: At intake, it was made clear to both me and my boy that they do not provide GID therapy.  Matter of fact, I was told that being Trans was the cause of all my emotional/psychiatric problems.  Considering I was diagnosed in California, and again by Social Security in TN, as having job related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, I was very offended by that statement from the intake nurse.  On another visit I was verbally abused by a social worker for continuing testosterone HRT and seeking a mastectomy. In historical reference, on Saroj's last day working for Overlook about 30 years ago she was 10 minutes late returning from lunch so the administration terminated her so a disciplinary discharge would be on her employment record instead of 'resignation with notice'. Not surprising since this is where Saroj saw her first Trans client to protect the Tgirl from abuse by tenured Overlook counselors.~~AMR (Overlook became part of Peninsula in 2006)
